Another Baby Bamboo Shark Released in Khao Lak

One of our juvenile sharks reached 7 months old and was ready to be introduced to its real mother—the ocean. Bamboo sharks are crucial to keeping the shallow reefs healthy. A huge thank you to our partner, JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa, for their incredible efforts in hosting OFA’s Bamboo Shark Nursery, and to our dedicated shark caretaker officers.

Great job, everyone! Special thanks to the hotel guests who helped with this release. Together, we are making a difference!

The Shark Nursery & Education Project

Together with JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa, OFA operates a shark nursery, where baby bamboo sharks are hatched and cared for until they are ready to be reintroduced into their natural habitat. Adjacent to the nursery, guests of the hotel can enjoy a brief presentation which outlines the shark nursery project and the vital role bamboo sharks play in Thailand’s marine ecosystem.

We hold shark release events whenever the baby bamboo sharks reach maturity, with the hotel guests invited to contribute to the important work of replenishing the bamboo shark population.
