OFA Foundation has conducted its first dolphin survey of 2021 onboard the amazing power catamaran Sea Explorer. We cruised the southern area of Phang Nga Bay in search of the last pod of resident dolphins ( about 30 individuals) of the area. They are bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops). We did not find the entire pod, but only a small group of 5 dolphins, but very happy to have found a mother with a newborn. The calf is only a few weeks or even days old as it still has the foetal folds marks that look like stripes. A really new baby dolphin still shows its foetal stripes from being folded up in its mother’s womb. This is all very good news for the resident dolphin’s population around Phuket. Thanks to the amazing crew of Sea Explorer and to the friendly people and agents from the Thai Travel Association that joined this survey.
