Another successful seagrass seed collection campaign for OFA’s Mermaid Garden project at Paradise Koh Yao พาราไดซ์ เกาะยาว. We collected more than 200 seeds from the seagrass meadow and placed them in our Sea Grass Nursery aquaria at the resort, where they will grow safely for about one month before we replant them with a size advantage to help mother nature in order to expand the seagrass meadow faster. We also identified a lot of Dugong feeding trails in the area, which is important data for the protection of this endangered marine mammal. Thank you to Dr Kongkiat Kittiwatanawong, director of the PMBC (Phuket Marine Biological Centre), as well as Ghislaine Bovy from Bonjourphuket and Vincent Delsol from Pullman Phuket Panwa Beach Resort for joining the OFA team during this trip. Last but not least, thank you to our host Marc Landgraf and his team at Paradise Koh Yao พาราไดซ์ เกาะยาว for having our seagrass nursery at the resort and for supporting this project since day one. Sea Grass meadows are extremely important as they provide food, shelter and nursery for the majority of marine life and in addition to this, they absorb 20 times more carbon dioxide than land plants. They are one of the best solutions to fight against ocean acidification caused by global warming. But today we lose the size of 1 football field of seagrass every 30min on the planet. You can be part of the solution, you can help!
